My in-laws recently celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary last week. So we prepared a special lunch with the whole family, with each of their children contributing, to celebrate this important milestone. What would be a celebration without a cake? So here:
The apos (grandchildren – there are 4) jostled, and huffed and puffed, as they all wanted to blow the candles – only to be dismayed realizing there were none!
Trying my hand in blogging again. It’s been awhile – I had a baby who just celebrated his first birthday and a job at an international NGO. Busy as I am, I want to go back to blogging as a form of relaxation. Wish me luck again.
Here’s a photo of my one-year-old son with his Grandma, my mom. We’re rooting for Team Brasil. And it doesn’t matter what happened to them, we’re still their fans!
And so it happened!
My dear son is now one year old – time to celebrate this first milestone 🙂
We only had a small celebration at my parents’ house in Banica (Roxas City) and a handful of friends and relatives came by to join. Of course, we didn’t forget to go to church for thanksgiving. My other brother, who’s based in Phnom Penh, was also in town to join us with his wife, much to our delight.
My son had a whale of a time playing with his cousins.
Here are just some of the pictures taken. The quality is not that good as they were taken mostly from an old phone. Some great photos were in my brother’s camera though. I hope he gives me the copies soon.
Thanks to those who remembered and joined in the celebration.
Oh your smile… the smile that melts all the stress and exhaustion. Thank you for that wonderful smile, the smile that melts my heart.
I pray that you continue to grow healthy, happy, strong, and smart. Respectful of all living things, great and small. I hope you and your Kuya Joshua will love each other dearly, and grow up to be the best of friends. Indi lang kamo magpa-ugtas todo sa amon ni Papa Jhong. Plus, your Grandpa and Grandma will be there to guide you and give all the love and support in the world.
I am very sorry for the lack of updates for the past four months or so… As you can see from my blog post title, I had just given birth to baby boy number 2. So my hands are full taking care of him. I am still on an extended maternity leave and went back to my hometown to be with my husband and eldest son. They, too, missed me and wanted to be with the little one. So now, in between changing nappies and preparing baby formula, I’m also spending time with my eight-year old and help him with his studies. I wanted to update but with both kids needing my attention, I just can’t find time to blog.
Here’s a photo of my little one when he turned one month old. I hope this compensates for my lack of posts. My younger sister bought a chocolate cake to celebrate this milestone. It seemed so fast — and baby boy #2 ballooned so quickly. He’s heavy my arms tire carrying him after just ten minutes! Tomorrow, he will be baptized at the cathedral with selected friends and family to witness this important Catholic ceremony and another milestone in my son’s life. Coincidentally, it’s also my birthday : I just wish my other siblings will be here for this family occasion.
Anyhoo, I will try to post more pictures of baby #2 when I can.
This is probably what my son and his cousins were discussing while taking a break from their football training.
They’re enrolled at the free summer football clinic in Roxas City. The three enjoyed the “play” but after three days, only one remained running — and that’s the little one in the middle. The older ones, her sister (left) and cousin, my son (right), gave up because their legs and feet hurt, so they both say. Lol.
I have to thank my husband for not only taking our son but also the girls to the football clinic. The summer football clinic is held at the Villareal stadium. Thanks to activities like these, many kids are having fun this summer. If this is an initiative of our city government, kudos to your effort. I hope many more fun activities will be offered – for free – for children every year.
My recent Mellow Yellow Monday posts about this beach resort in my hometown with a nice, spacious playground got me thinking about birthday ideas for children This thought came to me because my niece’s 7th birthday is coming up in two months time and his dad, my younger bro, asked my help to assist his wife to come up with activities that can make his daughter’s birthday a happy and memorable one, not only for the children’s enjoyment but also for the accompanying parents and other adults as well.
Because of my previous stay in this resort, I can say that it is perfect for my niece’s birthday party. First, the location. It is very accessible, just a 3kms away from the city center to Brgy. Baybay where the resort is located. Tricycles and jeepneys ply this route regularly. For those who are car-owners, there is a huge parking area and – wait for it – it’s for free!
Second, the facilities are good. There is a large swimming pool for kids – which is a sure hit for the kids. However, my SIL and I need to take into consideration those who do not know how to swim.
Thirdly, the resort is about 7-hectares and they have well-maintained tropical garden setting. It is a huge space for kids to run around! There is a nice playground complete with the usual playground fixtures, such as seesaws, slides, swings, monkey bars, etc. to amuse them. For the accompanying parents and other adult guests, on the other hand, they will love the benches and tables shaded by large trees to sit down and watch the children play at the party while enjoying drinks and snacks themselves. I heard there’s a wi-fi Internet, too, so they can also entertain themselves with a bingo game or two at FoxyBingo.com.
Generally, kids are very easy to please. We can provide them with fun things to do, like parlour games, such as this musical chair game. There is also a bowling alley inside the resort so perhaps a mini-bowling tournament for the kiddos will be considered as well. The food and the birthday cake and ice cream can come later when everyone’s getting tired and hungry. We already thought about decors and food, etc. But before my SIL and I go crazy about the details, I think it is a must that we first ask what the birthday girl wants. What we might think fun might not be for her. After all, it’s her birthday. Will keep you posted.
My son turned 8 years old yesterday! He is undoubtedly growing up to be a splitting image of me 🙂
Already in the second grade at a private school here in Pampanga, he speaks Tagalog fluently, as well as Hiligaynon and Kapampangan. He is picking up a lot of Kapampangan words but he confessed to me that he doesn’t like to speak it because, according to him, it sounds “funny”.
Unlike his other birthday celebrations in the past, we didn’t throw him a party. Instead, his Papa and I asked him what he wanted to do on his birthday. I picked up this idea from my sister’s friend. In this way, we don’t really spend too much on something that the birthday celebrant doesn’t really want or appreciate anyway.
So, when we asked him, he excitedly told us that he wanted to go to the mall and ride the bike and asked for a birthday cake on the way home so he could blow the candles. We thought, not a bad idea. It’s simple, doable and, most of all, it’s my son’s idea of a fun birthday so we were more than happy to do what he wished for.
So, after lunch, the three of us trooped to the mall and let him loose at the fun rides. We let him choose any kind of ride he wanted but chose only this trike ride. He was crazy over it!
Before we went home, we bought a birthday cake at Red Ribbon, ice cream, and other snack items that we shared at home with my younger sister. He even blew his birthday candles and made a wish.
That jersey he is wearing? It’s his Tito Bigg’s pasalubong! There were three – one American football (Tom Brady’s number) and two soccer jerseys. Hah. And we thought these stuff will arrive for Christmas. Thanks Tito Bigg. You made your nephew happy!
I thank the Lord for giving us blessings, for the good health of my son, and for another year. We may not have a lot but the Lord never fails to provide for us and our needs. Again, my dear Joshua…

I almost forgot this picture. This was taken some weeks ago when my son attended his first Halloween party in school. Oh, my little boy was so ecstatic at wearing his Superman outfit again, lol.
The kids were very happy with the loot they received from their trick-or-treat activity. The teachers put effort to make this a memorable one for these first-graders. And the parents, too, dressed their kids in great costumes. It was a fun day for everyone!
I was digging through my files to find what to post in today’s MYM when I chanced upon this old photo taken some two years ago in Binangonan, Rizal. This resort – the name escapes me now – is a favorite venue for trainings and workshops by the VSO Bahaginan. I’ve been here many times during my pre-departure training and I can see why VSO loves this place.
It is very cool, quiet, and relaxing in this place. My favorite area has to be this stilt house – this is where I liked spending quiet moments by myself or with my Hippo batchmates at VSO.
So many happy memories were made in this place. As of present, two of my batchmates have already gone to heaven, and the rest are currently in different countries finishing their assignments. Hopefully we could all gather again.
Looks like I’m in a (blogging) roll these days. I’m trying 😀
I missed blogging. It’s a wonderful outlet but my mama duties have kept me away for awhile.
Since I am making a comeback, I decided to join memes this time. They’re fun and so much easy to do compared to writing a blog post. So, for my first entry for the Mellow Yellow Monday, I’m sharing a photo of my son’s school presentation during their Christmas party.
The children wore different shirt colors to categorize their grade level – nursery (red), kinder 1 (green) and kinder 2 (yellow). My son’s in kinder 1 and his cousin, my niece, is in nursery.
